Planning Your Trip
Flights
Our wedding will take place in Voula on the Athens Riviera, where we have a family home. To get there you’ll need to fly to Athens International Airport, and it’s a 30 minute taxi ride to the area. It’s super easy to get there.
From Dublin, Aerlingus fly direct to Athens on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Ryanair flies direct from Dublin to Athens on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. Aegean fly direct to Athens from Dublin on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.
From the Netherlands, KLM, Aegean and Transavia fly direct to Athens from Schiphol airport every day. Transavia and Ryanair also fly from Eindhoven on certain days.
From London, British Airways, Aegean and Easyjet fly direct to Athens from various airports every day. Ryanair also fly from Luton on certain days, and from Stansted every day.
Flights are generally very reasonably priced when booked in advance and there are lots of options. The wedding will take place in the late afternoon on Thursday 3rd June so if time is tight for you, it is possible to take an early morning flight that day.
Where to Stay
We recommend staying in Voula, Vouliagmeni, Kavouri or Glyfada to be close to all the festivities. These towns are all about half an hour from the airport and it’s very easy to get around by taxi. Avoid Ano Voula and Ano Glyfada as they are set further back from the coast in the hills, and are a bit less accessible. I have added some hotel and apartment options here, but there are plenty more places available on Booking.com and Airbnb. Have a search around for what best suits your needs, and let us know if you need any help, we are very happy to give you some advice.
Voula
Voula is a family friendly small town very close to the beach. This is where we have our home and we love it there. It’s also where the wedding venue is located. The town centre has everything you need in terms of local restaurants, coffee shops, bakeries, supermarkets, quaint bars, boutiques and shops. It’s not a place that you would describe as very buzzy or trendy but it’s full of lovely places and we really enjoy it because it’s so relaxed and easy to walk to everything you need. I recommend staying as close to the town centre as possible as this is the nicest part and everything is accessible. From Voula it’s a 15 min walk to our local beach in Kavouri, or a 45 minute walk (for the brave) or 5 minute taxi to the beach clubs in Vouliagmeni. It’s also a 5-10 minute taxi to the more lively town, restaurants and bars of Glyfada. If you want to take a trip into Athens city centre it’s a 25-30 minute taxi, or it’s possible to get a tram. There are no great hotels in Voula, but plenty of apartments and Airbnbs.

Kavouri / Vouliagmeni
Kavouri and Vouliagmeni are where we go for the beach, and where many of the more upmarket hotels are located. In Kavouri we often walk to our nearest beach in front of the Divani hotel, and there is a lovely seafront walk from there with a handful of nice restaurants and bars to go to. This is where we go for our (occasional!) morning runs.
Slightly further out is Vouliagmeni, which has a very big and busy public beach and our favourite beach club, Astir. There are also some lovely restaurants here along the seafront as well as some set back in the town. Vouliagmeni does not have a town centre like Voula, with many shops and amenities, but it does have a small strip with plenty of lively restaurants, cafes and bars (Rumours, Mano d’Oro, Lagom). Both areas are a 5 minute taxi to Voula, or a 10 minute taxi to Glyfada. Athens city centre is 30-40 minutes away by taxi.

Glyfada
Glyfada is a very lively and buzzy town, and where you will find all the big highstreet stores and designer shops in a lovely area. There are also lots of bars and restaurants and some beach clubs (though the swimming is not as good as Vouliagmeni, they can be great for a sundowner). If you want late bars and a bit more action, this is the area for you. Be aware there is a busy main road called Leof. Posidonos that divides the town centre from the seafront, so if you choose to stay on the seaside of Glyfada you will have to cross that road to get to town (although it only takes a couple of minutes), and you may have some noise from traffic if your room faces the road. There are lots of varied options for accommodation in Glyfada. It is 5-10 mins by taxi to Voula, and 10 mins to Vouliagmeni. It’s 25-30 minutes by taxi to Athens city centre, or you can take a tram.

Athens City Centre
Athens city centre is a 30 minute taxi ride to the wedding venue, so it’s possible to stay there if you wish, or add on a night or two in the city. The most well known hotels are the Electra Palace and the Grande Bretagne, both very centrally located with fabulous rooftop views.
Getting Around
It is very reasonably priced and easy to get around by taxi, and you can use either Uber or Beat. A taxi from the airport will be around €25, and from Voula to Vouliagmeni around €4-6 or Voula to Glyfada around €6-8.
If you would like to rent a car to do some exploring there are plenty of options around the airport or Morphis Car Rental in Voula.
Babysitting
I know many of you are looking forward to a child free holiday! However if you are bringing your little one(s) and need to find a babysitter we have been recommended to use this website. Of course if you are staying in a hotel, they will be able to provide a babysitting service in most cases. Please let us know if we can help in any way.
